Be a part of our journey and help us make our movie!

After being turned down for funding due to a “perceived lack of audience”, we are determined to prove those decision-makers wrong.

Our 12 years of touring tells us we do have a faithful audience and this film is for YOU - Farmers, growers, dog lovers, kiwi’s, lovers of off-beat “bat-shit crazy” and “terrifically bonkers” comedy.

If you join us on this wild film making ride, we will repay you with some unique and special rewards and, of course, credit you for being part of some homegrown, heartland, original good fun.

We wouldn’t be at this point without you and we want to take you with us so that we can offer NZ and the world a taste of kiwi oddball at its finest.

take a peek at how it’s coming along ...

How it began

The Bitches’ Box is the decade long comedy partnership between creators/performers Emma Newborn and Amelia Dunbar.

When they were thrown together as total strangers some time in the year 2011, and asked to “create a 10 minute piece of entertainment...” no rules outside of that.. just 10mins, for an audience. Naturally, the pair landed on the idea of performing a comedic theatre piece as two hot bitches, passing the time whilst locked in a bitch box.*

Their four comedy shows The Bitches’ Box, Sons Of A Bitch, Life’s A Bitch and The Bitches Box: Episode 4 have seen wide support and glowing reviews across NZ, Australia and the UK.

As well as being Arts Festival favourites, The Bitches’ Box are renowned for their sellout woolshed tours, alongside singer-songwriter Mel Parsons. They’ve travelled to the nooks and crannies of rural NZ, where they deck out the sheep shearing spaces into fully functioning theatres, frequently accommodating 200+ people a night.

At a conservative estimate, it is believed around 30,000 people have seen them perform, with most of these shows playing outside of the main town centres.

*A bitch box is an elevated kennel used to keep a female dog away from the lusty gaze of the male dog.

"I have not laughed so helplessly all week. The Bitches’ Box is fall-off-the-chair funny, so brilliantly written and executed that only admiration makes you stop snorting…It is superhuman how doggy they are.”
